Steezy Saturday Week 2 Results!

Sorry for the delay folks.  In case you haven't heard, I broke my pelvis on Monday bodychecking a rock.  It really was not a lot of fun at all.  Between an inability to sit for long periods of time due to pain, and a short attention span due to pain medication, it's been tough getting anything up.
From what I hear, Steezy Saturday was great however wasn't able to get up to see it and am just now going through the footage.  The riders chose to have it a little higher up in the terrain park and I wasn't able to handle a sled ride up.  Anyhow, here's the outcome and accumulated points up until this point.  Video will be up soon:

Another Steezy Saturday!

The entries seem to be pouring in today with a higher number of skiers than last week!  In the junior division, Jacob Stubinsky and Noah Kember are only 2 points apart and are both back this week to step it up for top spot.  Kyle Eaton will not be defending his top spot in the Senior division so it will be up to Dan Pandzic and Nick Kudlac to break the tie and move up to first.
The location for this week will be up higher on the hill with more features being used than last week.  The judges say we will be using Corey P, The Mini Mortar, The PVC and the Tire Jibs.

Here is a video from last week's contest.  This is only one edit from at least 2 or 3 which will be done within the next day or two.  No worries if you're not in this one 'cuz there are a couple more on their way!

STEEZY SATURDAY happening TODAY!

What is shaping up to be one of the funnest and steeziest contest this side of either the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam or Premature Jibulation is going down at the base of Searchmont Resort's Terrain Park at high noon today.

Skiers and snowboarders will go head to head in a battle for top three spots.  The rider who has the most combined points overall will be named Champion at the end of this season's battles.

Even if you haven't been on a board or skis since the big pant and plaid shirt days of 1996, you could come out and take this contest.  Bangers are great, but they won't win this series.  Our judges are looking for 3 things and 3 things alone:

 1. Style
 2. Amplitude
 3. Landing

$5 Entry fee.  Under 18 need parental/guardian permission.  Helmets are 100% manditory.  No Question.

Here is 2 hours condensed into 25 seconds...  Gives you an idea as to what the new feature looks like.

Tomorrow is the first STEEZY SATURDAY SESSION!

What better way to ring in the weekend than with a points-series, skier vs. snowboarder, style based rail jam?  Dan, Jake, B-Rad and Myself have been up there building a brand new feature at the bottom of the Terrain Park.  Steezy Saturday has been relocated there due to lack of snow at the bottom of the champs...      We tried to farm a little bit of snow with Dana and his trusty Snow-Cat, but after hitting dirt after a pass or two, we decided to move to where the snow was a little deeper.

The two main features we will be using this week for Steezy Saturday will be the new SAFA rail, seen here:

As well as the new feature which is still in the works at the time of writing this.   It is yet un-named, so if you have any ideas, let us know!

What you cannot see in the photo, is the moat.  It has yet to be determined if it will be filled with lava, pirhanna, sharks, alligators, dinosaurs or broken bottles.  Either way, if you fall in you automatically lose!

From a park standpoint, THIS is the weekend to be here!

This weekend will be completely and totally (pardon the cliched saying from 2003) "off the hook".  Even with the terrible snowfall we've seen this season, our park crew has been able to produce incredible things.
Changes happen on a daily basis, Jake and Dan are constantly hustlin' to make the best park around.  A few of the key features this week are:
 The New SAFA Rail.
How gnarly is that bad-boy?

Next up, the ole' C-Box

Next up, the boys have built a pretty rad battleship/jump/cannon type thingie...  Amazing!

A little further down is the PVC setup

Followed by the full PVC rail

A little further down are the old family favorites...  Corey P, Flat Box and the Mini Mortar Canon

Beyond all of that, there is still a few features we didn't get pictures of.  There is an off-axis rail at the entry of the park which is great for blunts and wall-ride-ish tricks.  The tire jibs are still around for your jibbin' pleasure.

Remember this weekend is the start of the STEEZY SATURDAY RAIL BATTLE!  Searchmont's first ever point-series contest where skiers and snowboarders go at it, head to head.  These contests are all about STYLE!  We wanna see yours!  Gnarly Bangers need not apply!  Small prizes are awarded to weekly winners, while larger prizes will go to the overall winners!

Steezy Saturday Rail Battles!

We are pleased to announce the first ever Searchmont freestyle points series contests.  Over the next week, we will be working to set up a new mini park at the bottom of the Champ's run, same as it has been over the last few seasons.  The contest series will run every Saturday from 12pm - 2pm with a $5 admission charge per rider.

In the Steezy Saturday challenges, judges are looking for style and style alone.  Ridiculous, video-game-calibre tricks will not win it for you.  We are looking to see your personal style, not a spin-to-win scenario.

The top 3 riders in both categories at the end of the season will be awarded large, worth while prizes based on accumulated points throughout the series, while daily winners will receive smaller prizes at the end of each contest...  Did I mention that there will be no divide line between dual and single plankers?  Yes, skiers and snowboarders will be duking it out, head to head.  It's all about personal style, after all

Points will be awarded as follows:

1st Place - 7 points
2nd Place - 5 points
3rd Place - 3 points
Participant - 1 point

So yes, anybody has the potential to win this one.  No need to be intimidated by even the gnarliest of local shredders, their bangers are futile!

No Friends Left Behind On Powder Days!

...That's the old ad-age, isn't it?  Well, it should be.  If you're worried about what the park looks like after all this fresh snow we've been getting over the last two days, we need to talk about priorities!  The park is still there, burried in a foot of snow, so it's another one of those 'pow line to rail to pow line.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, in fact, it's quite the pleasant change compared to what we have been seeing this season.  The real action isn't in the park though.  It's EVERYWHERE else!  The quad and double are nothing but pillows, pow and face shots!    Get your boys and/or girls together and get up there.  You can learn rails and jibs in your backyard this week..  In the mean time, get out here and enjoy riding in it's purest form.  It's going off right now, and one thing I've learned about Mother Nature this season, is don't take her for granted for a second!

Nothin' but blue skies! Sunshine!

...Simply amazing up there today.  Sunny, crisp morning with fresh powder groomed into the hill leaving it as the softest cords in recent memory.   Extensive work last night by Dan and Jake really paid off.  As far as I can see, this is the best rail park around!   The boys from outside are working on grooming out the double today, and once that is complete we will be working on the jumps in the park.  We may have gotten off to a slow start, but the same can be said for most Mid-Western mountains this season.  Now and in the forecast, there doesn't seem to be much of a shortage of snow.

In the first set of pictures, there is the Flat Box, Corey P, and the Mortar Cannon.  All placed with love and care by our park staff.

In this picture is the Bawating Rail, and a new-funky-fandangled kinky PVC.  It's a pretty fun down-flat-down set up.

This one is somethin' else...  Not even sure what to call it.  It's a crazy-gnarly PVC linked boobie-gap...  I guess?

This is the other Bawating Rail, long and slightly down-sloped.  In behind is the old family favorite, the A Frame.

And the final picture of today's Blog is that of your fearless Terrain Park Supervisor, Jake Trumble.  Giving everything the thumbs-up.  It's a good day be a skier or snowboarder, especially today at Searchmont!

Sunny and Soft!

Almost a foot of fresh snow has really changed the appearance of the terrain park.  I went up a few minutes ago to shoot a video for it, but Jake and Dan are up they're doing what they do best...  Building it up!  They figure by tomorrow things will be looking good enough to shoot, hopefully the sun holds (even though I'd actually prefer another few feet of fresh) so everything looks crisp on film.

It's the same basic 7 features that I wrote about yesterday and all have been given love over the past few hours.  They've built a couple more features that will be unveiled in tomorrow's blog.  Only way to get a sneak-peek is to get out here.  Tonight is $9.95 Friday and I will even wager to say that it will probably be the best night conditions in the past few years.  As of 2:30 this afternoon, there is no sound of ice.  Riding up the lift is serene, all you can hear from the skiers below is the sound of pushing snow.

For the kiddies, we've set up our Grom Park.  This is a basic flat park where parents can take kids to give them the feel for standing sideways.  All features are ride-on with a very mellow downslope.  Ideally, this terrain park is reserved for our very youngest of riders who want to be able to say "I slayed a park today!"

The Grom Park:

The Log Jib

The Table Top

The Dance Floor

The Tire Jib (currently being built)
